The whole of Montenegro is pretty mountainous. The beaches and coastal towns hug the dramatic coastline, and then there is the steep climb north, away from the sea into the centre of Montenegro. There are three national parks, the most famous being Durmitor, where you’ll find the Tara Canyon. Someone told me it was Europe’s deepest river canyon. It is spectacular, and you must try the white water rafting if you’re feeling particularly brave!

A lot of tourists visit this area for mountaineering and hill walking.

We’ve skied in both Kolasin and Zabljak, both excellent for beginners and intermediates, perhaps a little pedestrian if you’re an experienced skier.
