The bar coastal town lies to the south of the Montenegrin coast, close to the Albanian border. Haven’t visited the city often, it’s a busy port, but with some very attractive surrounding areas where you’ll see olive groves and some very nice beaches! The old town has the remnants of a 15th-century fortress and the castle of King Nikola. There is also an olive tree that is more than 2000 years old!

Bar is also popular for several seasonal festivals, such as Meetings Under The Old Olive Tree and the Bar Chronicle, but we’ve never attended these so can’t comment on how good they are!

Nearby beaches include Dobre Vode, Sutomore and Canj.

We visited Bar after a trip to Skadar Lake, not far away. The lake is worth a visit!
