“Lustica, Montenegro”

One of the many beauties of staying in our stylishly renovated home is the proximity to so many coastal destinations, all within one hour of our home.

Along the Bay of Kotor is the tiny town of Perast, with its baroque palaces and churches. The sea-fronted, cobblestone promenade has a number of excellent restaurants. It’s a great destination for a long, lazy lunch whilst watching all the activities on the water.

On our way home we often jump on the ferry at Bijela that takes you towards Tivat, and then you’re home in 30 minutes!

Can you guess which Montenegrin Cathedral we visited today?

First built in 1166, the cathedral is home to byzantine-style frescoes and Montenegro’s most valuable treasure. It also houses a very impressive museum. Any ideas?!

Answer? Visit Montenegro and stay at our stylishly renovated home, only 45 minutes drive from our featured cathedral. Our villa commands uninterrupted and spectacular views of the Adriatic. Best beach and brunch, ever!

Best beach and brunch, ever!

Within an hour’s drive of our Adriatic sea view home, is our favourite beach. And we mean world favourite, not just Montenegro favourite!

Queen’s Beach is named after the Queen Consort of Yugoslavia, Marija, who had a summer palace here in the 1920s.

Cypress, olive and pine trees encircle the small cove. The water is crystal clear, as you would expect from the Adriatic – it is simply ‘picture postcard’ perfect.

We spent the morning on the beach and then took a ten-minute walk to Przno, a small, but bustling fishing village for a very good early seafood lunch and a glass of their homemade white wine – surprisingly good!

Then home for sundowners at our stylishly renovated home, commanding uninterrupted and spectacular views of the Adriatic. With its own pool, the house comfortably sleeps eight, and each room has a terrace overlooking the stunning coastline. All the furnishings have been carefully chosen. Crystal clear water at Zanjic Beach

Visit Zanjic beach, Lustica Peninsula, a small bay that sits next to Mirista – both a 3 minute drive from Lustica House. The water in the bay is a crystal clear azure blue, so make sure you take your mask and snorkel. The beach is not sandy, quite large pebbles so beach shoes are also very handy. There are a few restaurants and bars on the beach, but our favourite is Porto Adriatic. They serve fresh fish, as well as pizzas, pasta and steak, but almost all of their produce is made there or nearby – very little carbon footprint here! Alex is the head waiter, and is always up for a chat! Even the local butterflies are friendly (see one of the pics).

The best fish restaurant on Lustica Peninsula

Just had a very long lunch at Ribarska Selo in Zanjic, a fish restaurant that sits on its own small headland on the Lustica Peninsula overlooking the island of Lastavica and the most southern coastline tip of Croatia. Fresh fish is delivered by local boats each day, they grow all of their own vegetables and even make their own olive oil! Excellent food, good wine selection and very attentive staff (thank you Alexander for looking after us so well). After our lunch we sat in their sun loungers for a well deserved siesta and a swim in the Adriatic before returning home to Lustica House, our stunning villa that sits above the fishing villages of Mirista and Zanjic. It’s only a 3 minute drive or a 30 energetic walk to the restaurant.
