Žanjice Beach – A Perfect Day on Luštica Peninsula

Žanjice Beach on Luštica Peninsula with crystal-clear Adriatic waters

Žanjice Beach – A Perfect Day on Luštica Peninsula

One of the many things we love about staying at Lustica House is that some of Montenegro’s most beautiful beaches are right on our doorstep. One of our favourite day trips is actually only a three-minute drive away – Žanjice Beach.

Nestled alongside neighbouring Mirišta Bay, Žanjice is one of those places that instantly reminds you why Montenegro’s coastline is so special. The water here is a remarkable shade of azure blue, so clear that you can often see straight to the seabed.

Crystal-Clear Water and Great Snorkelling

If you’re planning a visit, don’t forget your mask and snorkel. The crystal-clear Adriatic waters make this one of our favourite spots for swimming and exploring beneath the surface.

The beach itself is made up of large pebbles rather than sand, so beach shoes are definitely worth bringing along. Once you’re settled in, though, it’s hard to imagine a better place to spend a summer afternoon.

If you enjoy discovering hidden corners of the peninsula, you may also enjoy reading about our adventures on Luštica Peninsula, exploring Luštica Bay, or visiting the beautiful Queen’s Beach.

Lunch at Porto Adriatic

After a morning in the water, we almost always find ourselves heading to Porto Adriatic for lunch.

There are several cafés and restaurants along the beach, but this has become our favourite. Fresh fish is always a highlight, although the pizzas, pasta and steaks are equally tempting. What we particularly like is their commitment to local produce, with much of what they serve sourced or produced nearby.

It feels refreshingly authentic, and the quality of the food speaks for itself.

Alex, the head waiter, is always happy to stop for a chat and makes every visit feel like you’re returning to an old friend.

The Friendliest Butterfly in Montenegro

One of the unexpected highlights of our last visit wasn’t the food or even the scenery—it was a butterfly.

While enjoying a post-lunch coffee, a friendly butterfly decided to join us for a while, happily landing nearby and posing for photographs. It’s one of those small moments that probably sounds insignificant, but somehow perfectly captured the relaxed atmosphere of the day.

Sometimes it’s the little things you remember most.

Back Home to Lustica House

After a lazy afternoon by the sea, it was time to head home. Fortunately, the journey is a short one.

Lustica House sits above the fishing villages of Mirišta and Žanjice, enjoying uninterrupted views across the Adriatic. Whether we’re returning from the beach, a long lunch or an afternoon exploring, it’s always a pleasure pulling back into the driveway.

With accommodation for up to eight guests, four comfortable bedrooms, three bathrooms, a private swimming pool, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and terraces overlooking the coastline, it’s the perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of Montenegro.

If you’re looking for another fantastic lunch spot nearby, take a look at our visit to Ribarsko Selo, one of our favourite seafood restaurants on the peninsula.

One of Our Favourite Beach Days

Žanjice Beach may only be a few minutes from home, but it never loses its appeal.

Every visit reminds us why we chose Luštica Peninsula as our home in Montenegro. Whether we’re swimming in the crystal-clear Adriatic, enjoying lunch by the sea or simply watching the boats drift across the bay, Žanjice Beach is somewhere we never tire of returning to. It’s a place we always recommend to family, friends and guests staying at Lustica House.

Durmitor National Park

Durmitor National Park with Tara Canyon and dramatic mountain scenery in Montenegro

Durmitor National Park – Montenegro’s Mountain Adventure

When most people think of Montenegro, they picture beautiful beaches, charming old towns and the sparkling Adriatic Sea. While the coastline is undoubtedly spectacular, some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery lies inland.

Leaving the coast behind, the road climbs steadily through dramatic mountain landscapes into the heart of Montenegro. It’s a journey we always enjoy, as every bend reveals another incredible view. Before long, you’ll arrive at Durmitor National Park, one of Montenegro’s most spectacular natural treasures.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Durmitor National Park is one of Montenegro’s five national parks and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Towering limestone peaks, glacial lakes, dense pine forests and deep river canyons make it one of the country’s most impressive destinations for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The park is centred around the mountain town of Žabljak, the highest town in the Balkans and an excellent base for exploring the surrounding landscape.

The Magnificent Tara Canyon

One of the highlights of any visit is the incredible Tara River Canyon. Often described as the deepest river canyon in Europe and one of the deepest in the world, it stretches for more than 80 kilometres through spectacular mountain scenery.

Standing on the famous Đurđevića Tara Bridge and looking down into the turquoise river below is an experience you’ll never forget.

White Water Rafting

If you’re looking for adventure, white water rafting on the Tara River should be at the top of your list.

The crystal-clear waters wind through towering cliffs, ancient forests and untouched wilderness, creating one of Europe’s finest rafting experiences. Whether you’re an experienced rafter or trying it for the first time, there are trips suitable for all abilities.

It was one of the highlights of our visit and something we’d highly recommend if you’re feeling adventurous.

More Than Just Adventure

Durmitor isn’t only about adrenaline. The park is criss-crossed with walking trails leading to glacial lakes, hidden viewpoints and dramatic mountain peaks. Black Lake (Crno Jezero) is particularly beautiful and one of the most popular places to explore.

If you enjoy hiking, photography or simply escaping into nature, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied.

Returning to Lustica House

After spending time in Montenegro’s mountains, we always appreciate returning to the relaxed pace of Lustica House. One of the things we love most about Montenegro is how easy it is to experience two completely different landscapes in a single holiday—from mountain adventures in Durmitor to peaceful evenings overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

If you’re staying for more than a few days, we’d also recommend exploring Lake Skadar, wandering the medieval streets of Kotor Old Town, or relaxing on the beautiful Luštica Peninsula.

One of Montenegro’s Greatest Adventures

Whether you’re rafting through Tara Canyon, hiking among dramatic mountain peaks or simply taking in the spectacular scenery, Durmitor National Park is a destination that deserves a place on every Montenegro itinerary.

Sveti Stefan – Montenegro’s Iconic Island Village

Few places in Montenegro are as instantly recognisable as Sveti Stefan. Every time we visit, we’re reminded why it remains one of our favourite destinations along the beautiful Budva Riviera.

Perched on its own tiny island and connected to the mainland by a narrow stone causeway, Sveti Stefan is one of the country’s most photographed landmarks. Surrounded by the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea and framed by pink pebble beaches, it’s a place that never fails to impress.

From Fishing Village to Luxury Retreat

It’s hard to believe that this iconic island was once a small fishing village. In the 1960s, the original stone houses were carefully restored and transformed into an exclusive luxury resort, preserving the character of the old village while creating one of Europe’s most prestigious hotels.

Today, the island is operated by the Aman Group, and its terracotta rooftops, narrow cobbled streets, ancient churches and medieval buildings create one of the most spectacular backdrops on the Adriatic coast.

Our favourite time to visit is late afternoon. As the sun begins to set, the warm light catches the stone buildings and red rooftops, creating unforgettable views across the sea.

Exploring the Budva Riviera

Although the island itself is reserved for hotel guests, the surrounding beaches, coastal walks and viewpoints are open to visitors, making it a wonderful place to spend a relaxing afternoon.

After enjoying the views, we often stop for a coffee or lunch overlooking the island before continuing our journey along the Budva Riviera.

If you’re exploring this part of Montenegro, don’t miss the historic Old Town of Budva, just a short drive away, with its medieval streets, lively cafés and beautiful beaches.

Returning to Lustica House

One of the advantages of staying at Lustica House is that many of Montenegro’s most famous attractions are within easy driving distance. Although Sveti Stefan is on the opposite side of the Bay of Kotor, the journey offers spectacular coastal scenery and makes for a fantastic day trip.

After a day exploring the Budva Riviera, we always enjoy returning to the peace and tranquillity of Luštica Peninsula, relaxing on the terrace with uninterrupted views across the Adriatic.

Other Places Worth Visiting

If you’re travelling around Montenegro, we’d also recommend visiting Kotor Old Town, the beautiful baroque town of Perast, the peaceful beaches of Luštica Peninsula, and the glamorous Porto Montenegro marina in nearby Tivat.

For nature lovers, a day exploring Lake Skadar or the spectacular Durmitor National Park is well worth adding to your itinerary.

One of Montenegro’s Most Beautiful Views

Sveti Stefan is more than just a luxury hotel—it’s one of Montenegro’s most iconic landmarks. Whether you’re admiring it from the beach, photographing the island at sunset or simply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Budva Riviera, it’s a destination that deserves a place on every Montenegro itinerary.

Porto Montenegro

Porto Montenegro – Montenegro’s Luxury Marina

During one of our trips around the Bay of Kotor, we decided to spend the afternoon exploring Porto Montenegro. We’d heard plenty about its luxury yachts and exclusive reputation, but we were curious to see whether it lived up to the hype.

The answer was a definite yes.

From Naval Base to World-Class Marina

It’s hard to imagine that this beautiful waterfront was once a deep-water naval base used by the former Yugoslav Navy. Over the past 25 years, it has been transformed into one of the most impressive tourism developments on the Montenegrin coast and one of the Adriatic’s leading superyacht marinas.

Today, Porto Montenegro attracts some of the world’s most spectacular yachts, alongside visitors who simply come to enjoy the restaurants, cafés, boutique shops and stunning waterfront setting.

Surprisingly Tasteful

We expected plenty of luxury, but what really surprised us was how tastefully Porto Montenegro has been developed.

Rather than feeling over-the-top, the marina has a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. Wide promenades lined with palm trees, beautifully landscaped gardens and elegant buildings create a destination that’s enjoyable whether you’re admiring the yachts, enjoying lunch by the water or simply taking a leisurely stroll.

Of course, many of the boats moored here cost several million pounds, but you don’t need a superyacht to appreciate the atmosphere. It’s just as enjoyable sitting with a coffee, watching the world go by and imagining where some of these incredible vessels are heading next.

A Wonderful Place to Spend the Afternoon

We wandered along the marina, browsed a few of the boutiques and stopped to admire the views across the Bay of Kotor. There are plenty of excellent restaurants overlooking the water, making it an ideal place for a long lunch or an evening meal.

If you’re looking for another memorable dining experience during your stay, have a look at our favourite fish restaurant on Luštica Peninsula, where fresh seafood and spectacular Adriatic views make for a perfect afternoon.

Returning to Lustica House

After exploring Porto Montenegro, we made the easy drive back to Lustica House. One of the things we love most is how easy it is to experience both sides of Montenegro—from glamorous marinas like Porto Montenegro to the peaceful beaches and traditional villages of Luštica Peninsula.

Back at the villa, we spent the evening on the terrace overlooking the Adriatic, enjoying the peace and quiet after a day of exploring.

With four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a private swimming pool and panoramic sea views, Lustica House provides the perfect base for discovering Montenegro’s beautiful coastline.

One of Montenegro’s Finest Developments

Porto Montenegro is undoubtedly one of the best tourism investments Montenegro has seen in recent decades. While it’s still evolving and will no doubt continue to develop its own character over the coming years, it has already established itself as one of the most prestigious marinas on the Adriatic Sea.

Whether you’re interested in luxury yachts, waterfront dining, boutique shopping or simply enjoying a beautiful setting, Porto Montenegro is well worth adding to your Montenegro itinerary.

If you’re visiting the area, we’d also recommend exploring Kotor Old Town, Perast, and Luštica Peninsula, each offering a different glimpse into the beauty and charm of Montenegro.
